The secret for our WaterHog Stair Treads staying put all lies in its smooth rubber backing. Our stair treads are certified by the National Floor Safety Institute as being "High Traction". You can purchase and install WaterHog Stair Treads knowing they've undergone extensive testing and it's performance is acknowledged by the leading authority in floor safety.
We've engineered our backing over the years to install simply by placing on the steps you intend to use without the need for adhesives, tapes, or nails.
That being said, there will be minimal movement over time, and you will likely need to reset back to its original place.
If you have concerns about movement, we encourage you to read all reviews (on our website and our retail partner websites).
Can WaterHog Stair Treads be used indoors and outdoors?
Absolutely. All WaterHog Stair Treads can be used for nearly any outdoor and indoor setting.
I have real hardwood stairs, are they safe to use?
Yes. WaterHog Stair Treads can be used on almost any flooring surface without concern.
We always advise to refer to your flooring manufacturer and/or guide and review their recommendations on matting products.
Can I use nails or tape to affix WaterHog Stair Treads?
We cannot promote or advise the use of any materials to further affix WaterHog Stair Treads.
We say this in that we have not tested nor confirmed the effectiveness or safety aspect. There is a possibility that any additional materials or methods implemented could have a negative effect on safety or damage to your stairs or property.
We have had customers inform us that they have implemented other materials to affix with varying degrees of success. Please note this is not something we can advise and any alternations will void any warranties or guarantees.

Each tread measures in at approximately 8.5"x30", and has a total height/thickness of .25".
A WaterHog Stair Tread consists of a recycled PET surface and a durable all-rubber backing.
